I often use the phrase “Leadership Journey” since there’s no finish line to cross or ultimate goal to achieve. Becoming an effective manager or inspiring leader is a process. A process of learning, evolving, refining, and improving.

Jim Baker

Jim’s experience spans four decades of increasing complexity and leadership responsibilities almost exclusively in the biometrics domain of Clinical Development. The first decade was dedicated to programming code and producing macros initially in financial analytics and quickly shifted to biometrics for new drug development. The technical emphasis was followed by a shift into entry level management expanding to executive leadership over time. His position at Amgen as an Executive Director required building and developing a global Statistical Programming department that continuously expanded through merger and acquisition during his tenure of almost 10 years. Another decade as Senior Vice President at Cytel, a bioanalytical consulting company, focused on creating and expanding a global services group from conception to a major proportion of the company’s revenues. Responsibilities included producing annual budgets and delivering on P&L metrics and targets. Half of his career was operating within pharmaceutical and biotechnology corporations (Amgen, Millennium, Wyeth, Knoll) and the other half providing consulting services to the industry through Clinical Research Organizations (Covance, PAREXEL, Cytel). Truly this is a career from macros as a Statistical Programmer to management as a Senior Vice President and every level in between.
